Life's a journey with problems to solve, lessons to learn, but most of all experiences to enjoy.
What if my child needs to be challenged?

In my classroom I strive to meet the individual needs of each student. Many students may be working above or below expectations in any given subject area. It is my job to find ways to engage all students in learning which helps them reach their fullest potential.
Some students have been identified by previous teachers and testing results as high ability students. Work for these students needs to be enriched, so they do not become bored in school. Students in this group are called the Tier II- Cluster Group. Cluster assignments will be focused toward 5-6th grade level. These students are expected to complete the regular fourth grade assignments and assessments. However, they will also be provided with challenge spelling, math, and reading assignments.

Cluster Challenge Expectations

Students will take a spelling pretest each Monday. If your child demonstrates mastery of the regular list, he or she will be given a list of 20 challenge words.
The Everyday Math Series already has 5th grade standards introduced in each chapter, but I will also provide your child with 5-6th grade level math work.
We will read several challenging novels during this school year. Students will be given time during Literacy Stations to read their novel. However, students in this Cluster Group will be expected to read several chapters at home as well.

How does my child qualify for Cluster or Tier II?

Students who have scored high on IQ tests, classroom performance, and Pass+ on both areas of ISTEP will be recommended for the Tier II or Cluster Group.
