Wise Sayings ~ Adages or Proverbs...What's the Difference?
Both an adage and a proverb are wise sayings, but a proverb is more common in everyday life.
• A proverb is a wise and practical saying about life in general. It is a piece of
common sense wisdom expressed in easy to understand, practical terms.
* Example: "A penny saved is a penny earned." ~ Ben Franklin
• An adage is a widely known, time-honored short but memorable saying that is
considered true by many people.
* Example: "Don't judge a book by its cover."
